In the process of finding out why I'm getting the SAIP air flow CEL... I found out why and need to replace a T.
BUT... along the way... I broke something!!!
Questions...
1) What is it?
2) Is is needed for the engine to run?
3) Part #?
4) How the hell do I go about removing these impossible retaining clips?!?!?!?

It's called a vacuum check valve. I believe it leads off to the vacuum reservoir. I found that mine had been repaired earlier using some type of epoxy. I went ahead and changed it out just to be sure it as working right. I wasn't worried about the piece, so I just pulled it out with pliers and then slid off the clamp.

scroll to vacuum check valve

for the dang part and I don't even know what purpose it serves to the running engine.
I asked the parts guy what would happen if this isn't used. He said it has something to do with the brakes?

2.7T training manual that has been posted here several times talks about the N249 valve(divert air valve for turbos)and vacuum reservoir being used together to allow the DV's to be operated independently of the manifold pressure. It also says that if the N249 valve fails that the DV's are opened by the manifold pressure. I am guessing that this part hooks them all together and directs the flow based on if the N249 is functioning. Since they went to the trouble to engineer a non-preferred backup system using the manifold pressure, I have to imagine that it does something important. I guess I'm saying that I wouldn't drive without it. I couldn't begin to tell you what would happen if you did though. I don't know enough about this engine.
