Default Help! Instrument Cluster Trouble!

(2002 Audi A6 2.7T 6-speed manual, cluster 4BO 920 981P, US)

Hey guys, so two weeks ago I had a friend remove my instrument cluster to replace the middle (red) screen that was going out. (We disconnected the battery before doing so.) New screen worked but had some quirks.

Later that week, I removed the cluster again (without disconnecting the battery this time) to resolder the contacts. Long story short, plugged cluster back in and it tripped the immobilizer. However, the cluster is wigging out, needles jump everywhere and its lights don't come on.

I bought a brand new Ross-Tech VAG-COM cable and got the codes:

18058 - Powertrain Data Bus
P1650 - 35-00 - Missing Message from Instrument Cluster
17978 - Engine Start Blocked by Immobilizer
P1570 - 35-10 - - Intermittent

Is my cluster screwed or can I fix this with VAG-COM?

Thanks George, I knew of these pages, but was wondering if I could still re-program the cluster.

Judging by the cluster's behavior, it may be shot since all the needles randomly twitch, some lights work and others don't, etc. I thought maybe someone else had ran into this before and fixed it.

When a new symptom emerges after the last work you did, it was most likely the last work that you did causing the symptom.

Default OK, can't resist. This is a classic cluster****. (Thanks, AW for censorship!)

I'm betting the instrument panel is hosed. Just bite the bullet and send it to module masters for overhaul/repair.
