Default CPO warranty is fairly straightforward, though does have a $50 deductible. Aftermarket depends on..

...the company that offers it and its policies. My aftermarkent warranty (wife's car) has been just OK - they've covered some stuff, but denied one repair on what was truly a technicality.

IMO, ask the dealerships' service writers which aftermarket warranties they'd recommend, and go with that, if aftermarket.

Finally, be sure to try to get the Zero-deductible version, if offered. Generally, the pricing is only a small amount more than a $100 deductible, which is covered by perhaps 2-3 visits where you don't pay.

Default Re: 2-3K

The quoted difference is about $9K or so - I'm definitely not betting on low repair costs, just trying to guage things.... I usually keep cars quite a while, just not sure if the extra $9K is worth it here. Good comments on this board though, so I'm working my way through the process....

Default Re: Do you do your own work, or rely on a mechanic? What are your driving habits?

Good point about the remaining original warranty to 50K. I think I usually put on about 15K per year (an outside figure) so it would actually be about 2 years before I have to start paying for the scheduled maintenance and wear/tear items, but the point still holds.

More to think about - lots of variables

As far as how I drive, it's obviously a very subjective thing to judge....my guess is that I would be a little more conservative than the average "spririted" Audi driver (to use the term I've seen on some Websites) but not a great deal more conservative. I certainly won't be doing any racing or 1/4 miles or anything, and in city traffic I'm generally not all that aggressive. But I don't have a problem hitting the throttle when needed :-) How's that for an answer?

Default I paid $2300 for 50k/5 years back in '02 to cover my '00 till about '04. It paid for itself 2x

in covered repairs. And this was with a non-Audi aftermarket warranty, which was a pain to deal with, and didn't cover OEM parts.

It still saved me close to $6k over that period. You have the advantage of an Audi CPO'd for 100k that all the work is done at an audi dealership, with audi OEM parts.

I've thought about selling my '00 and getting an '04 that is CPO'd till 100k, since I end up driving between 25k-33k per year.

Default yikes....

how much are looking to spend? A6 values dissapointingly are falling pretty fast. There should be some values on 02 models. If you want to avoid expenses w/turbos, look for a 3.0. You sacrifice some performance but no turbo to go south.

A 4.2 has the power, and have been pretty reliable.

9K is total b.s. Dealers want a premium.

Glad my sometimes crazy logic made sense. It ain't worth 9k, though. 5k... maybe.

Default You're missing a key distinction - the CPO is a two year add-on to the factory warranty...

which is far more comprehensive than the CPO warranty. The factory warranty is 4 yrs./50k miles, so even that 2002 should still have 5k of factory warranty coverage before the 2-yr. CPO coverage kicks in.
