Default HELP , my car does not start!! more...

I drive it today, no problems at all!! Parked it in the garage, locked. Wanted to leave the house for the fire works and guess what, the key does not even turn , the gears cannot be moved, the car as locked , period! Took the key out, locked it, came back 2 hours later (flagd the wife has a car) and still nothing. I have never seen anything like this! There is power on the batery since the alarm worked but the key does not move at all! Tried the spare key, same thing. The way it looks now, a technician has to come out and try to figure out what's going on because other wise it will be stuck in my garage for ever!
FYI, only have 50000 mls on her!
any ideas?

Default So when you say the key does not turn.....

Did you did try jiggling the steering wheel both ways to make sure the anti-theft locking isn't what's preventing you from turning the key?

The reason I'm asking is cause normally its suppose to lock the wheel until you turn the key, but I've had friends who have a hard time turning the key if the wheel is locked.

Default One possibility...

The shift lock could be stuck. If you can, try shifting the transmission through all positions then push it hard into the park position, then try starting it.

Default I have tried wiggling the wheel while trying to turn the key and it does not work!

I will call the dealer tomorrow and they will have to send a guy in to look at it. :-(

Default Is the car on an incline?

If not you might try rocking the car while someone tries to move the shifter and the ignition.

Default is this what happens when ....

the chip/ecu dies?
isn't their some software freeze that is corrected by disconnecting/connecting the battery?
these are the doa situations as i recall.

also the key/ingnition/steering wheel freeze is sometimes cured by pushing the key inward/toward the ignition while twisting.

sorry but that's all i remember about lockups...
good luck

Default Re: I have tried wiggling the wheel while trying to turn the key and it does not work!

same thing happened to us with a rental car....on a Thanksgiving weekend...what a pain. And my husband is a mechanic....just was flat locked up...they came and towed it back to the rental place after we waited three hours in a parking lot for them to bring a new rental. It was a Chevy with less than 10,000 miles on it.
