Default Help! - Need new center trim piece around hazard switch (part # 4B0-863-321 .. color?!)

Okay so I swapped out my cup holder for a cubby (thanks BD, i'll ship your cup holder out tomorrow)... but when putting the trim piece back on, i managed to mess up and snap off a tab. Oh well, it wasnt going on great anyhow.

No real harm or foul because it was going to come off this coming weekend again anyhow, when NSXjr installs my RNS-E goodies, etc... but after that I need it back on obviously.

So I know its Part # 4B0-863-321 .. but what color code? My car is a 2002 S6 Avant with the standard interior (its a very dark wood color).

Any help is appreciated... going to call my local dealer tomorrow, unless any S6 guys here (or other applicable cars w/same wood) have this piece they want to part with ASAP... thanks in advance!!

Default If by tab you mean just the metal piece then...

Its not really a problem...the only important tabs for that piece are the bottom corners. When I was doing some stereo work I snaped a tab or two and I have had no problems.

If you really are worried about the tab then you could hot glue/epoxy it back on. (I actually did this for some, but still lost 1 tab completely)

As for color codes...no idea , but it would be useful information...im planning to do something alittle "out there" and would love a backup.

Default Show of hands: who has NOT broken off one of these tabs? (don't anticipate any takers)

You'll be fine. If you broke only one, give yourself a pat on the back.

Default No worries, as long as you at least have two of the clips, you should be fine...

I think Audi over-engineered taht piece. SIX clips for the smallest trim piece...no wonder they break!

Default Oh, and when you see Lee, tell him that I said "hello"...

unfortunately, he was suspended from AW, but he was a valued contributor, especially when it came to eletrical stuff.

Let him know that I am trying to find a "fun" application for the FUNK button I bought from him a while back (more on that later).

Default You guys rock! So here is what I ended up doing ...

The top left corner clip was FUBAR so it just came off... the center one stayed in the car even when I first removed the unit .. and the top right one was wiggling. So I just took it off.

All 3 bottom clips are snug as a bug, so they are all happy to stay on. I went ahead and snapped it back on now with just the 3 bottom clips and sure'nuff its solid on there. Thanks for the feedback. Now I just hope that none of the bottom ones fatigue when Lee works on it, hehe.

As for the part # .. for those who care, the ending "P 3J3" would be added to allow for my grey birch S6 trim, for future ref to anyone who hits this thread. cheers!

PS: BD, your cup holder part is in the "mail" in a UPS box ... and yeah i'll tell Lee ya said hi!
