HELP!! Removing console 99' A6
I own a 99' Audi A6 Avant.
I need to get my center console out and don't know where to start. Are there any diagrams out there? Any tips?
Problem: Shifter moves through the gears, but car is stuck in park. I checked the brake switch and selenoid is fine. Now I gotta get under the shifter because when I forced it, something came loose..or at least it didn't feel right when it moved out of park. I think I may have broke linkage (not sure), oops!
Help is appreciated!!!! -Dan

Okay.. I got the center console insert around the shifter up and out of the way. I have the shifter box under the chrome exposed. I ran the shifter up and down through the gears, watching the parts move with a flash light but don't see anything broke? What should I look for? I don't know what I'm looking for?
Problem: applied brake(automatic), put into D (drive), but doesn't engage into gear. When I applied the brake the indicator light next to the shifter went out as usual, but the shifter would not budge. I pulled on it harder, but I think I forced the shifter to hard and felt like something broke loose. So, I'm troubleshooting everything.

Hmm could be your Neutral Safety Switch or Position Switch, pretty much the thing that tells your transmission to engage in gear. It hooks up from the shifter, a cable goes to it so once you put it in a gear.. the cable pushes something on or in the Neutral Safety Switch that than engages a gear.
Here is some information - Car may go into FSM (Fail Safe-Mode or Limp Mode) to prevent furthure damage. But I am not sure that there is damage anyway.
Here is what It looks like and its very accessible. Its mounted on the transmission

First, use VAG-COM so see what's going on with the shifter and trans. Then, if you must remove the console, use Bentley or find a write-up here that covers it. If you try to figure it out without help, you *will* break stuff. You have to start in the back seat and work forward.
