Default Here is some hope for People with original KO3's and high miles.

Here are the pix of my two turbos. They are not the best pix b/c I didn't realize they were a little blurry I can take more if someone was interested.

Info:
2000 A6 2.7 6mt
122,000
original turbos
Apr chip for about 80,000
1/4 tracked about 15+ times

The fins show no marks at all. I think they look pretty good.

Default as one of those people, I thank you! Question for the experts - I thought it was

the bearings that fail on these, not the fins?

Default How much of the story does fin condition really tell you? ...

Obviously, FOD can cause even brand new turbos to go.

But outside of FOD issues, I thought it was bearing issues that caused turbos to die untimely deaths. I assume one cause of bearing issues is unbalanced impellers that, presumably become unbalanced due to uneven fin wear (what would cause this?).

But I thought the vast majority of failures, especially in later models, was bearing failure due to oil starvation, presumably something fin damage tells you nothing about. Am I wrong in this?
