Hello to the board, I am currently looking at buying a new car and one of the option I have is a 1999 1.8t sport saloon A6 for about £8k. The car has good specification, leather, electric everyting, tiptronic box and stuff, but my cause for concern is the milage.
This car is only 4yrs old and has 93,000 miles (150,000km)on the clock and I am not sure how this car will take high mileage or what its weak points are. Can anyone who has run a similar car with the auto box please tell me there experiances good or bad so I know what to look for. I still have to take this car for a test drive and when I do I want to be in a posistion to know what to look for, hope you can help me, thanks in advance.

The most important thing is to check the service history fully. Do this by contacting the dealer who has done most of the services and ask for a full print out, they can do this via reg No. or VIN No., even if they have not carried out all the service work. This will show any warranty work as well and may highlight any potential probs. It is not always a sign of future or long term problems - my wife's A4 had a new windscreen and two new rear windows and some paintwork all in its first year, but it was a superb car, she did 50k miles in two years with no faults at all.
You will find the A6 should drive like a car that has done about 25k miles especially if it mostly motorway mileage. From my experience, there are very few real faults we see on UK cars, the US consumers seem to see far more problems. My brother-in-law has a garage and specialises in Audi/BMW/Mercedes simply because you know they are unlikely to give problems to 2nd/3rd owners.
I do not know where you are geographically but if your any where in the north, have a look at -

http://FARoper.com</a
