Default Highway vibration and alignment problem (post is kind of long)

I have an 01' A6 2.7T with Tip.I put a set of Ruff racing wheels on it that are 18X8.5 and 18X9.5. The tires are 225/40's and 245/40's. On the highway from 60 mph to 80 mph I get a bad vibration. The car is lowered with H&R springs and I had the upper link arms replaced about a month ago. The wheels and tires were instaled about a month before the lowering kit and upper links. The vibration started when the wheels and tires were instaled. So I have had numerous balances on all four wheels from a number of different shops, as well as hub centric rings instaled, all resulting the same. I have also replaced all four of the tires yesterday. At the same time I figure I would try the alignment. The rear has been aligned and doubled checked. I am told the front on the other hand needs a caster camber kit to be aligned. Is this true? Should this have been done at the same time as the springs? Would this cause the vibration? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Default Maybe the vibration is the center differential desperately clinging to life?

Staggered wheels FTL.

Default Um...225/40's and 245/40's DO NOT have the same rolling diameter. Me thinks that is your problem :PP

Take 40% of 225, then compare that to 40% of 245....You'll see the difference. Your killing your Quattro system.

I agree. Imagine what it tries to do under hard acceleration!

Default And yet not one of those shops has figured out AWD and staggered setups do not mix?

Replace the front's with the same 245/40, use hub-centric spacers if needed and be done.

Default Hopefully you got the message, Audi Quattro cars are not made for your setup. You have...

too many things working aganist you. 1. the car is lowered, (tougher to align) 2. Wrong size tire & wheel for the narrow body C5, and spacers. You're lucky is drives straight with both hands on the wheel!

Default Performance VS, Looks

Hate using spacers or HUB CENTRIC RIMS coz you'll never EVER going to get rid even the slightest vibrations.

Suggestion: Remove the rim and tire / sell it and buy a RIM with your Audi's offset.
Not unless if you want to sacrifice the performance for the looks - then go for it.

Good luck

Default Not necessarily.

I think it looks ridiculous too...that's just my opinion though.

Default I have no problem with staggered rims. My problem is that he has tires with diff overall diameters..

The sidewall of a 225/40 tire is 90mm, whereas the sidewall of a 245/40 tire is 98mm. Def Not good...
