Default Hot and/or Cold is letting the engine idle bad? (for the car)

1. In regards to my post below thanks for all the replies.

2. Am I hurting/helping the car by letting it idle until the oil needle moves?

3. I do surveillance for work....sometimes I sit in my car for long periods of time. Longest was 28 hours...... There are days when my car idles for 2-3 hours. In the winter I give it short brakes every few hours (until I'm freezing), but otherwise my car idles for most of an 8 hour day! Am I killing her or what?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

I'd assume it's easier on the car than driving it, and harder on the environment than turning it off

Default Won't your oil will warm up faster if you are driving??

just stay off the heavy foot until the needle moves, but you can move the car in the meantime. As far as cooling down after a spirited drive, just make sure your last mile or so of driving is not as spirited, and you should be fine.

If you start the car and take off, full throttle, yeah, that is bad, regardless of outside temps. If you come screaming to a stop from a fast and furious drive and immediately shut the engine off, that is bad too, regardless of the outside temps.

The suggestions for waiting until the oil temp needle moves or reaches a certain point is for stomping on the turbos, not driving in general.

Default I'm really not concerned w/ my oil being cold/warm.

I always let the car warm up (remote start), and cool down (Greddy TT). People are making me concerned with the amount of time my car idle's. Have you heard anything about idling being super bad or whatever? I mean obviuously it's bad for the enviornment...but am I seriouly hurting my engine letting it idle for long periods of time?

Default Raise the revs occasionally

It may not be a problem on these engines but I like to make sure the oil pressure rises periodically to get adequate oil flow everywhere. I also worry about fouling the plugs with long idle periods but that may not be an issue either.

Default You do surveillance in the car in your sig?!?! Isn't there something in the "How to Do Surveillance"

handbook about not being in a 'noticable' car... and your car is VERY noticable.
