How do I know which BOSE System I have....

I'm not sure. May be that the head unit was not coded properly.
It is only a Bose when you program it to be Bose on installation. Not sure if battery exchange might lose this data; probably not.

It is definitely a symphony and has the Bose both the speakers and the sub-woofer, is there a...
...VAG-Com modification - not that it's a big thing, I just wanted to find out which system I had. Any info is appreciated though!

I always recommend you get a copy of the window sticker
when you buy a used car, it's a semi-legal document that has to have all kinds of info. And to anyone selling a used car, be a sport and make a copy for the new buyer.
Coupla years ago I bought a Starmark MB (from a dumb-*** dealership) and wrote to MBNA customer service for a copy of the Monroney sticker. They sent it!

If you have Bose speakers and on window sticker, but if head unit does not say "BOSE' on power up,..
... then it needs to be set to Bose. Somebody screwed up.

Don't have Window Sticker so don't know that aspect, however thanks for the links!!
As I have Vag, I'll see what happens. I hope it is, as I'm looking forward to being able to take advantage of the "Vag trick"!
