How do you check the auto transmission fluid level?
There's no info I can find in the owners manual on how you can check the fluid level for the auto tranny. Every previous auto tranny car I've had has had a dipstick for checking the fluid level.
Is this something only the dealer needs to check?

Re: This sounds like hogwash...
From what I heard, a sealed transmision case extends the longevity of the fluid, simply because they install a very high quality fluid that doesn't break down as quickly under higher temperatures.. Transmission fluid is designed to dissipate the heat from the unit and lubricate the internal components to prevent the gears from grinding.. This fluid will break down just as motor oil gets dirty after a certain number of miles. There are magnets on the pan gasket that captures little particles that chip off, from wear and tear... When there is too much gunk, the magnets don't effectively attract these particles and they tend to get caught in the gears in the long run, thus causing the gears to slip.. Changing the fluid and filter every so often prevents this..
P.S. a good example- BMW advertised that their new 740iL had a sealed transmission case and didn't require maintenance for 100k miles a number of years ago.. After several years now, this turns out to be untrue, and these units need the required maintenance as do other cars..
