How do you tell leather from leatherette?
I just bought a pre-owned A6 2.8L Avant. I know leather has a certain feel and smell, but I imagine on an 8 yr old car it's not going to be the same as new.
Looking at the original brochure for the car (ordered one off eBay lol) I can tell that I have one of the packages that COULD have leather, but I don't know if I have the one that does have it. I have the sunroof and the Homelink, and they are common to both packages. The only difference is leather on the other package.
The seats have held up well with NO rips or tears, just fine spider type lines to indicate some wear. I looked on the brochure, and it looks like the leatherette has some small pattern in it with a dot, whereas the leather doesn't (black in both cases).
I cleaned them today and treated it with Lexol leather cleaner/conditioner, and that seemed to work well. It's no big deal but I'd like to know what to tell the next owner as I will probably sell it one day to get a newer model down the road. The car has every other available option, so I can't imagine they would have left leather off. Xenon, heated front and rear, sunroof, etc. No nav though.

When you say seams do you mean stitching? I just looked at mine when I went to the store and it does have stitching/seams. If that's an indicator then it's leather. Thanks!
