Default How does the Heated Steering Wheel Work?

Greetings,

I was curious as to how the heated steering wheel works and if it is possible to retro one into a 2.7t (2002) if the wheel came from the same year 4.2. Is the harness the same? Do I need a relay? Anyone have any ideas on the wiring harness. Is it possible to make a switch that would make it turn on / off?

Default Be more hassle than what's worth I'd bet.

First thig I'd check on is if the spiral spring in the steering column is a different part number for a heated verses non-heated steering wheel. I think it is but not sure. You'd def need one if it is different. Not to mention the harness, the steering wheel etc.

Default Retrofitting seems like a lot of work...

for the 60 seconds the wheel heater actually runs when you have the seat heaters turned on.

Default Well - I got a new heated wheel with airbag shipped for $220......

So I am willing to spend a few $$$. I have a heated wheel on my BMW X5 so I know how nice it is to have. I have a friend that retrofitted a heated wheel on his X5, so I am familiar with the ring / relay situation. Now I just got to get my Audi bought LOL.

Default Check with your parts department on that clock spring first.

See if the part numbers are different.
