You must promise to attend a given number of shows and market your car.
Chances are that you won't find too many takers now that the car is an old body style with a discontinued engine.

You also need something 'desireable' to start out with.
My friend got on the front cover of a popular tuning magazine called "Super Street."
Basically he put in some good work to his car, went to SEMA and handed out proposals to all the different manufacturers. He had one of the first turbocharged Civic Si's, so it turned some heads. He would then purchase parts from a specific manufacturer, and if they choose to sponsor him, they would reimburse him the cost of the parts, or give him additional parts in their line. With each new added sponsor it was that much easier to get another. He ended up getting into a few japanese magazines, and was fully sponsored by Eclipse with a $10k killer stereo install (not shown).
