How Does The Tiptronic Transmission Work?
I'm a newcomer to German engineering and I was wondering how exactly it works and what it's purpose is..

If I'm not mistaken, the 5 speed auto is tiptronic...
So the choice is Tip or manual...
All Avants are tip.
Very few Allroads are manual, but it was available.

um, slowly? not sure what you mean.
Tiptonics are traditional torque-converted automatics with manual over-rides for the hydraulic gear selection mechanism.
VW/Audi's DSG on the other hand is a manual gearbox with two clutches and sequential activation of the gears. One gear is held while you select the other, then wham, one clu6tch iopens and the other closes.
So.... one is an automatically operated manual; the other a manually operated automatic. Odd, huh?

Ahh, I see, so it's similar to a Semi-Automatic?
So, basically if you switch it from drive to the + and -, it treats the transmission like a semi-auto, and you just hit + to go up a gear or - to go down a gear?
I've heard that it overrides it when deceleration or braking occurs, like it shifts down automatically...
I've also heard that it runs through 1st and 2nd gears automatically, but allows you to switch between 3rd, 4th, and 5th..
Are any of my assumptions correct?

Some answers to your questions

Yes.

In tip (+/-) mode, it only shifts on its own if you floor the accelerator past the click, or if you hit redline. Also if you are in a gear and you slow down to a stop and do not downshift, at a certain point it will begin to downshift for you if your gear is way too high for mph.
I've also heard that it runs through 1st and 2nd gears automatically, but allows you to switch between 3rd, 4th, and 5th..
Nope, not at all. You have to change all gears manually in tip mode or else it'll only change once it redlines. That's in any gear.

thanks man.
Yea, I always drive in tip mode.
I feel like the car doesn't know what to do in auto sometimes. I dont like how it will shift near 3000rpm at times in auto, thats alittle too high for my taste.

Do you suppose, like a Manual transmission, you could improve your 0-60 Mp/h(0-100 Km/h) time?
And also, I've heard from so many sources specs for the A6 Avant.. Usually 7-8 seconds (0-60) and between 185hp-216hp..
Does anyone know exact specs for the Avant?

i think that's mostly right. But its not semi-auto - its fully automatic in the technical sense, since its a planetary gearset with a fluid drive.
Yes, when you shift to 'manual" mode you click up and down, but are just controlling the auto.
It will let you select any gear, but automatically keeps itself from being over-revved.
i dont like it nor do i use the feature, frankly.
