Default How hard to add steering wheel buttons

My A6 did not come with what I think is called the telematic package. Basically all I am interested in adding is the wheel buttons for the radio control. I have the symphony radio right now.

What would this entail? Thanks!!!

Default Not cheap...

you would need to get an airbag that has the button controls (yes, they are part of the airbag), and a new canceling ring that you would have to pay retail at the dealer. Probably at least a $500 mod.

I am looking to upgrade to the paddle shift tiptronic steering wheel. I found a wheel on ebay Germany, but having the hardest time finding the airbag to fit it (3-spoke sttering wheel). In the end, I will lose the radio controls, but I want to try it out.

And no, I will not be selling my stock setup. I will hang on to it just in case I miss the radio buttons and decide against the tiptronic paddles.

Default You'd need to buy different airbag, steering wheel, cancelling ring, and a control module...

..at a minimum. You might even need some harnesses and misc. hardware. I doubt it's really worth it...just reach the extra few inches to the radio. :P

Default I have a melange steering wheel w/ buttons, airbag, and cancelling ring.. I did the opposite.

I went from a multifuncion wheel to a RS6 3 spoke w/ paddles..

I have most of the parts you need to get it done..

Default I'm lucky enough to have the shifting buttons on my wheel... Not as good as the paddles, but...

still pretty nice. Only down side is you run the risk of a unexpected downshift if your thumb creeps up too high with a "9 and 3" hand position on the steering wheel. I've corrected my form a bit (haaha) to keep myself from doing it. All-in-all I'm glad I have the feature. Was it only '02's that they did that on, or is it '02 and up?

Default You will miss the radio buttons...

...I find that in my A4 loaners my thumb goes to change tracks and volume by instinct now.

My old girl had the tip buttons in her A4 sport and its no RS 6, and not really that cool. For starters, I downshift while in a turn sometimes and find it hard to locate the button, or paddle for that matter when turning the wheel.

I have used the paddles in the RS 6 on my few test rides of the beast and they are also not all that, that I'd want to sacrifice my much more used radio controlls.

Ask yourself, will you use radio buttons or tip paddles more?

Default I think I would probably use the tip paddles more, but...

if I find myself reaching tfor the radio more and more, I might swap it all back to stock with the radio controls. That's why I'm not selling anything.

Default THat's why I am opting for the paddles, less "oops" downshifts

Got to drive an RS6 with the paddles, it was kind of neat!
