And yes, a good old press will destroy the staked ones. That or a BFH and a good chisel. No matter how you do it you're gonna replace those joints.
Press FTW!!!! ))))))

Not too sure how this project is going to end up.....

but on the plus side we have a new word. I will submit it to the Webster's Dictionary people tomorrow. I love it "dissassembleable." Perfect for the topic at hand too! Not sure I could have even spelled it and I'm having trouble pronouncing it but that may be the beer talking..........

Yeah, I really don't know how to go about this...even if a could find a new u-joint and press the other one out...assuming the new u-joint came with circlips, wouldn't the shaft have to have the grooves for the clips to sit in?

And does anyone know where I may be able to source a new u-joint?

Thanks!

The correct spelling is disassemblable.

Did you try Blau?

I would suspect you press out the old bearings, do your thing with the new center bearing, then press in the new U-joint bearings and stake them afterward.

Here's the Blauparts kit. http://www.blauparts.com/proddetail....od=F5C1103%2DA It has the u-joint and all the good sutff you're gonna need.

Not cheap by any means. I opted for a rebuilt shaft from this outfit. http://www.wholesaleimportparts.com/driveshaft.php

I contacted Blauparts about getting a u-joint and they told me they no longer stock parts for the drive shaft for this vehicle....

Shane, I paid just over $400 for my rebuilt and it's perfect. A fairly simple install and since your is out you're halfway there.

Worth a shot depending on your budget. I also found a one piece with u-joint at each end that eliminates the center support mess. I would have gone that way had I not already done the rebuilt. I'll see if I can find that for you as well.

Here it is. http://www.advancedautomotion.com/in...c31c683a732d73
