How many affected by Tip gearbox jerk phenomenon?

Thanks for the travelog (sans sound). Your sit seems to be diff from what appears to be the norm...
Diff in that the jerk apparently didn't become noticeable til 5-6k miles, got progressively worse, and became a "always" situation from a FULL STOP by 9k miles. Therefore, I'm going to push on the solenoid issue and a '02 Tip module with my upcoming 2 yr Maint Service. Thanks for your insight and efforts with this very critical issue. I will continue to monitor and add any info I can provide.

2001 A6 2.7t, about 1500 miles when it first started, happen on a 2-1 kick down.
I think it is the control module, as my X5 has the same transmission, different controller and doesnt do it.

Re: This is encouraging news (more) - rather long response
I received the car in 5/01 (as a lemon law replacement to my 1999 A6 [fuel sender unit problems], and see from the sticker that it was manufactured 6/00--a very early 2001!) and noticed the problem within a few days! I suspect that the Audi managers/salesmen/ etc. who were there during the transfer were knowledgable of this as they warned me, in effect, that the car is drive by wire and that I would have to learn to drive it differently.
The thud seemed to occur only during certain drives, i.e., more prevalent on some days than others. Some days it just didn't seem to be subject to the THUD, while on other days I could expect it each time the conditions involved slow speed coasting. During those days I tried to anticipate most of the times when the THUD might occur and feathered the accelerator. It worked most of the time, but a typical trip between office and home might result in the THUD occurring once or twice during a 2-1 downshift acceleration.
The service manager did not indicate if the replaced module is a 2002 or updated 2001.
My description of the shifting profile with the new module was only meant to say the the upper shift (both upshift and downshift) points are a little more noticeable now than before the replacedment, and maybe a little more so in either the 4-3 (3-2?) downshift, but I'm not sure which. In either case, they are completely bearable and nothing that I would consider going through the hassle of trying to eliminate.
In all of this, my dealership and service department have been a pleasure to work with, and I have high regard for the service manager and service advisor (whom I try to deal with whenever I take the car in). They are very professional in their dealings with me and I do believe them when they indicate that they "cannot duplicate" any problems I think I've experienced. I figure that eventually whatever problems that do occur will worsen and then be noticeable and get solved.
The car has been very problem-free, which I was skeptical of when first noticing the "Mfr 6/00" sticker! Does anyone know of any problems I might expect with a car bearing such an early manufacture date?

Yup, happens when accelerating from a rolling stop, sometimes with a violent jerk..Mostly occurs...
...in heavy stop & go traffic situations.

Re: How many affected by Tip gearbox jerk phenomenon?
I have a 2001 2.7T and the problem was quite consistent and severe. Last week I had the car in for service and the transmission control module was replaced (following approval by the local Audi rep). The "thud" problem seems to be gone - although it's been less than a week since I've had the car back from service. There's still some lingering hesitation, but all things considered, I'll probably not worry now that the transmission is going to fall out or something. Thanks to the helpful posts on this subject. It helped me speak intelligently with the service staff and have the problem, as best as I can tell, resolved.
