How many hours of labor can I expect to be charged for a Steering Rack replacement ?A6 2.7T 2000

FWIW, dealer quoted me about $2,000 for the job - steering rack plus control arms...
Fortunately for me, I then went to my indie, and he discovered there were 3 bolts holding the rack in place accessible via the battery compartment. 2 of 3 bolts were finger tight - after 60 seconds of wrench turning, steering rack "problem" was gone. Also, the dealer was recommending the rack replacement because they said the inner tie rod ends were not a replaceable part - had to do the whole rack. Quick google and I found plenty of suppliers for inner tie rod ends - hell, they thread right onto the steering rack! I hope you have some good luck like I did.

Tech write-up for A8 rack replacement @ audipages.com....
....fairly similar to A6 replacement. Still have my ZF remanufactured rack waiting to go in, I will attempt a DIY install. Just waiting for work to lighten up a bit & the weather to get warmer. Definitely tired of puking Pentosin all over the place!
