Default How much does it cost to replace a temp sensor on a 01 2.7T?

My check engine light went on and the dealer said that it was my temp sensor. My VAG saids reads:
4 Faults Found:
17704 - Error in Mapped Cooling System (usually temp Sensor or Thermostat)P1296 - 35-00 - -
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0300 - 35-00 - -
16690 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0306 - 35-00 - -
16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0302 - 35-00 - -

But Im thinking its my plugs. Does a bad sensor cause misfires? How hard is it to change the sensor DIY?
Thanks

Default The sensor itself is cheap - less than $20, IIRC.

Replacing it isn't too bad. It seems hard to get to, but you'll figure it out if you're patient.

Replace the O-ring and clip while you're there. I always buy a spare clip in case I drop one down into the engine. Of course, since I have a spare, I never drop the clip - lol.

Default Where is the sensor located on the 2.7T?

How long would it take to install?

Default Behind the head on the passenger's side...

Sorry, don't have a pic. Do a search on "coolant temp sensor" and you'll find one. You can usually find the new, green top version at ECS (ecstuning) for less than $10. You can do the install yourself in about 10 minutes. If you DIY, make sure you pull out the old o-ring and don't drop the new one - you'll probably never see it again.

Default Some added suggestions.

Do the swap when the car is cool. Remove the cap on the coolant reservior to relieve the pressure, then replace it. Have the new sensor ready to install as soon as you pull the old one out. This will minimize coolant loss.

Default If you relieve pressure and then put the cap back....

...on; you won't loose any coolant.

Assuming one parks the car on a flat surface.
