Default how often should I change my fuel filter?

changed on 80k and I did a simple blowing by mouth test that filter was clogged like hell.

so how often should I change the fuel filter? 20k 30k 40k?

or simply 100 tanks of oil? which would be 30k-40k?

Why did you change it at 80K? If the car was running and you just happened to change it and found it appeared to be clogged...sounds like 80K was a good time to change it.

I did a major maintainence on 80K.. car was running @80k but mpg was poor, after changing the fuel filter, I can tell the throttle felt much better. So I think 80k/10years is a little long?

googled and someone recommand 40k, that's about 100-130 full tank of gas. Well changing the filter more often couldn't hurt, just a cheap insurance. So incase I get a bad MPG again I will change my fuel filter.

OK. Apparently Audi thinks there is no scheduled maintenance/replacement per se for fuel filters...if your fuel is clean the filter is superfluous, if the fuel is dirty, it depends on how dirty the fuel is before you have to replace it! ONE tank of dirty fuel could be enough to clog the filter.

Therefore, I would not replace the filter based on time in grade, if you will. Replace it when you need to.

Truth is - it depends on how dirty your fuel has been - on average - over time. Do you buy randomly from stations? Run your tank near empty regularly? Or fill up at known high volume stations?

Giant it depends.

Incidentally, why do you think a clogged filter would reduce fuel economy? I dont follow the logic...

Sure. Pressure goes down. So fuel delivery goes down. Car runs lean and crummy. How does consumption go up?
