Default How often should you replace the ATF?

Transmission has been shifting a little rougher than normal lately and I'm not sure I've ever changed the fluid.

Have the shop (or you if you DIY) be sure to change the filter with the fluid.

Default A ZF engineer told me every 30-40k. He said NOT to do it if you leave...

...the original fluid in for more than 60k.

what is the logic behind not doing it past 60 with the original fluid?

Default That's odd. The used sales guy from the dealer i purchased my A6 from

claims that the ATF never has to be changed. I brought it up to him prior to purchasing the car.

Default Yeah - it's "lifetime" fluid. so is the oil if you want it that way. If you never change the fluid

it will last exactly as long as the component that fluid is lubricating (tranny, engine, differential, etc.). I KNOW that used car salesmen tell nothing but the full, absolute truth - but ZF (who makes the tip tranny) says to change it; Audi says you don't have to. Audi will gladly sell you a new tranny whenever you happen to need one...

Default I call BS on this - not that he told you this, but that it is accurate. See my prior posts on this

in this forum. Changed mine @ 60k and it greatly improved the shifting and response. Now at 85k, will change again at 90k, 120k, etc.
