I am embarrassed and ashamed - 4.2 vs. M35X
My business partner showed up with his new Infiniti M35X. I took a look at it. It's allright, but nothing special to look at. When I told him it was an old man's car, he said my A6 was way more of an old man's car. I said "No, it's a luxury sports sedan!" He challenged the "sports" part of that so what was I to do?
Anyway, the kids in us came out and we went to an off street area of our industrial complex (no other cars around) and put them to the test.
I figured I'd smoke 'em. Boy was I wrong. First, I did get a bad start, but even so, he was slowly pulling away from me all the way to 50 mph, when we called it quits. As I slinked away with my tail between my legs, I told him we'll have to do a rematch another day. We both laughed.
Seriously, though, I was surprised at the result. I took a look at edmunds and the M35X is just as heavy a beast as the A6, but with 20 less horses and less torque. So, a case of bad driving? Older car? Or is the M35X just quicker?

longer gearing in the 4.2
the 2.7T has 50 less Hp but shorter gearing and so gets the same or better 0-60 time with the Tip... above that it is a different story. Most likely the same deal with the Infiniti. Japanese cars don't usually have very relaxed gearing on the low end

Bad start in auto . . .
We came to a stop before hitting it, and sometimes for some strange reason, my trans does not downshift to first right away. That happened this time, but it was only for a split second before I felt it downshift. In otherwords, I started in 2nd for a moment.

Re: I am embarrassed and ashamed - 4.2 vs. M35X
Well, I have an 2001 A6 2.7T, and just bought the Infiniti M35X, and I have to say, the pickup on the Infiniti is much faster. I still think the handling on the Audi is superior, but I bought the M35x because I think that overall, the Infiniti is a better buy, price and options wise.
P.S. Still keeping the Audi, as even Car Max gave me a low bid on the car, so I would rather keep it than give it away for nothing.
