well, I have this smell on my 03 and will get it checked next week

at the time of the recall.

Interesting, I see some tell-tale signs of a coolant drip, the white residue

under the coolant reservoir. Maybe this is the culprit?

There is a design flaw (probably more to come)with the 2.8 motor.The cam tensioner seals (2) will fail after the warranty (in my case)runs out. Your symtoms sound exactly like mine. I just had mine replaced at a local Audi shop for $600US. I wonder what a dealer would charge for the same work..? PLR
