Default i know this vague but its getting to me.....

i developed a burning oil smell the past couple of days. then checked oil level i was 1.5 quarts too low. so filled her up. smell is still there but oil level seems fine so far. after all day of driving i parked her with a white towel under the car. there were no leaks. smell seems particularly strong on the driver side. any common problems with oil burning on the 2.7 i should know about?

How are the tailpipes? Brown, grey or black residue?

Default Light grey or brown is lean burn. Sooty black is oil from somewhere.

Dark greyish or brownish black is usually ideal.

Keep an eye on the oil level, but it could have been when you went up to the snow, that it was cold enough for the breather to malfunction, causing some oil loss. Search the forum for details.

If it's turbos, they usually but not always whine like a dentist drill. You can also have considerable oil loss to where it drips from the tailpipes when parking uphill.

Default Could be the cam adjusters/seals, that is, if you haven't replaced them already...

found out about this issue just AFTER I bought my 01 2.7T. Seems to be pretty common w/ the 2.8/2.7T engine.
