Identifying Xenon lights on an A6
I've been shopping around for a 2001/2002 A6 4.2. One of the features that is important to me are Xenon lights.
Is there a way to differentiate just by looking if an A6 has Xenon lights?

two ways:
a) Visual-halogen bulbs will look yellowish in color. Xenon bulbs will yield a color that will look blue-white to violet (depending on the age of the bulbs). The field of light flux will also appear to be much greater than that of a halogen bulb.
b) Under the hood-The dust covers, which snap on the back of halogen headlamp housings, will have no wiring protruding from their backs. For Xenon housings, a very heavy gauage wire will protrude from the rear center of the dust cover, and the wire will seem to be going down the back of the lamp housing, and underneath it-this is the cable that is running from the xenon bulb that is inside the housing, to the xenon ballast that is strapped externally to the bottom of the lamp housing.

What MY is that.? My ballasts are strapped to the bottom of the housings.
The way yours appear to be set up, it's probably possible then to remove the lamp housings without the need to drop the lower bumper cover.

Those are off an A8, you can take the backs off from the engine compartment
The right side requires the air filter to be removed, but that's it.

Excellent. Just the info I was looking for. Guess it is not so simple as on other cars.
On a Lexus GS, for example, all you have to do is look at the bulb in the headlight. A domed bulb with a spiderweb pattern is indicative of HID lights on that model.
Thanks again for your help.
