If my battery is "DEAD" , will I not beable to "jump" start using cables - just want to confirm

you ris damaging the voltage regulator and/or alternator. Without the battery completing a circut, the alternator-charging system would run at max output and then some.

You should be able to jump and get the car running. If you have a bad cell, the battery will not recharge and won't restart without another jump.
I forget if this is in the manual, but to protect various electronic components, you should not disconnect the jumper cables after the engine has started witout doing the following:
Turn on: headlights, rear window defroster, heater fan to high blower setting. These loads will dampen any sudden voltage change when you disconnect the cables.
I once fried the ECU and instrument cluster on a BMW by not running any additional loads.
