Default "GC" is a higher weight for a 0W30...

If you check out the specs on the Castrol website. On the BobIsTheOilGuy.com forums, it has a cult-like following. I believe I've read some B5 S4 guys are using it. There are 2 versions...green or gold. Seems the green was the original and supposedly is better, but is no longer available. The gold is its replacement, and is supposed to be very good also. It's fine to use, but if you are CPO or have an aftermarket warranty, its not on the Audi approved oil list, so you'd be better off with the Mobil 1 0W40 or Syntec 5W40 just to be safe.

Approved Oils

Default I would not hesitate to use 5W-30, unless I were dumb enough to push the limit in the hotest temps..

but why the relative caveat about changing oil at only 3 or 4K?

Default Sorry, but that is incorrect. Champion Labs makes Mobil 1, Purolator is their own company. Champion

makes the Bosch oil filters sold in the US, as well as several other brands, but they do not make Purolators.

Also, look at the specs and you'll see that the Purolator application for the S4 and other 30V engines does not have as high of a bypass valve setting as the Mann/OEM filters. You'll get unfiltered oil at high rpms/high oil pressures...

Why not Mobil 1 0W40. 5 is fine, but at the same price, I'd go 0W.
