Installing aftermarket amp and subs

I ran a search on most of the site and couldn't find the answer i was looking for. Basically I'm just trying figure out where i should get the input signal into the amp from. i was thinking of splicing rca's off of the rear speakers. Then someone told me i can't because of the amplifiers in the car. Please help NEED MORE BASS.
I have a 99Audi A6 2.8 sedan with the AudiSymphony.

isn't the BOSE system line level outputs that are EQ'ed at the headunit? I remember seeing a harness that plugged right into the back of the radio that had RCA's on the other end. All we would need to do is snip the BOSE wire on the harness and VAG the radio to not use the BOSE EQ.

It all depends on your end-goal....or objective.
You can certainly add a line-out adaptor to your Sym I....but then you need to worry about defeating/flatening the factory equalization.
Adding an aftermarket amp for a sub is pretty easy...because you are only dealing with the lower-end of the frequency range.
Do a search in the audio forum on the JL Audio CLeansweep ($400 - ouch). A few "audiophiles" have installed them with good success.
