Intermittent CEL; goes off with gas fill-up

Does the gas cap go bad after 8 years? If not the cap, what other fault would be triggered by filling or fuel level?

might be, when you refuel you tight the cap. What gas do you use?

I always tighten until the cap clicks and always use 91 oct.

Impossible to say with codes from ECU. Pull codes.

Just had this...

Pretty soon CEL will not go off. I am pretty positive both of your pre-cat O2 sensors will need replacing. While you're at it also replace the vacuum lines. But VAG COM is your friend.

There was a recall for Allroads (A6 family) from audi to fix a leaky purge valve on the gas tank.

Gas cap..purge valve...evap cannister..who knows..need CEL codes...
