Default Just did the 605 mod, my thoughts

Reading through the forums I have seen mention to the 605 servotronic relay mod for some time. I agreed with the problems of steering being overboosted, too sensitive, and just muddy to the point where turning is difficult and unpredictable. Since pulling the relay and driving around for a bit I found the steering to be perfect at highway speeds and above but abysmal below 45 MPH. Turning takes effort that I am have not been used to since driving a Ford Explorer or F-150. So the negative aspects of this mod are abysmal low speed turning but perfect feel and performance during high speed driving. I am going to give myself a few days to get used to the new driving feel but I am considering returning the relay to the care due to alot of city driving that I do.

Does anyone know if there is an alternative relay that can be placed into the car which gives less steering boost than the 605 relay?

Thanks!

Default The 628 servotronic relay has a bit less boost...

but I would say it still retains about 70% of the overboosted steering. Still, a bit better, and better than nothing.

Default 628

There is a 628 relay that you could use if I remember correctly..

You really should search though... 605 Relay has been extensively discussed..

Default I didn't notice any real difference with the 628. My suggestion is...

to install a switch inline with the 605 so you can turn it on when you're lugging around the city or parking and can flip it off during long highway cruising sessions. Someone posted a tech article about how to install a toggle switch inline for this purpose. That's what I plan to do to mine.

Cheers,

People that find it hard during city driving need to do some pushups & curls!

I pretty much hated it at first, but was too lazy to put it back in...love it now.

Default I saw the tech article on the swtich install but

I am not too electronics inclined so I have been asking around with the local mechanics to see if they can do it for me.

I drove around with it more and on my car it just seems like the effort to steer is over what would be considered acceptable. BTW atg I used to drive F-250 super duties off road with ease so how about you think before you speak.
