Based on both forum members suggestions (particularly Paul W's graphic representations) and that of my trusted Audi Service Advisor, I just had the tranny fluid and filter changed ( @48K miles).
My fluid did not look too bad so I did not expect to see any difference in tranny operation. Surprise!! It shifts noticeably smoother now, particularly down shifting from 2-1.
I find it strange that Audi's and BMW's both use ZF transmissions but Audi says lifetime fluid and BMW does not.
Reguardless - I am very glad I did this and thank those members that suggested this !!!!!!

equals "length of warranty/paid service."
There IS no lifetime fluid, well maybe NASA has one they use on satellites or something, but not here on planet Earth. Changing fluids can be a pain, but a smaller pain than paying for a new tranny. Or diff or radiator for that matter.
