Default Just got a A6 2.7T (M6)

Even after staying up 1/2 the night reading horror stories (and a few good stories) on this BB, I decided to take the plunge and get a left over 2000 2.7T for my wife (and me on the weekends). It was equiped almost exactly as I would have ordered, but there are a few strange things.

The dealer is still looking for the window sticker, but it was clear which options were on the car. It has leather, sunroof, upgraded sound system, rear and side curtain air bags (a big plus for me), cold weather package, and the sport package.

The weird thing is that the dealer says the car has the PSK sport package, but he insists that it does not have the sport suspension. He claims that he ordered a bunch of 2000 A6s with the PSK, but Audi never delivered them. He charged me the lower price for the sport package with just the seats and wheels. Is there any way to check what is really on the car?

My wife absolutely fell in love with the car on the test drive. She is returning a 1998 Volvo S70 T5 M5 on which the lease runs out in 3 weeks. She already likes the A6 much more. The dealer is cleaning up the car now and will deliver it to use later today.

I like the smooth ride and smooth power. I am not used to the softness of the ride however. I drive a 2000 Firehawk, so it is quite a contrast. I may have to start looking into wheels and tires and maybe some suspension parts. But I'm sure there will be plenty of time for that later. I am also very tempted by the chip packages. I'll have to investigate further.

Any advice for a new owner?

That's great your wife likes the car so much. My wife has never wanted to drive mine (2.7 T) even once- being a wholehearted Porsche lover. Anyhow, if I recall correctly, sport packages (PSK) were first offered in cars with a build date in April, or, perhaps, late March. List was $1000 compared to non PSK sport pkg of $750. There is probably some identifying mark on the PSK springs- a color or tag or something to set them apart. But, this is just a guess. If everything else fails, try to drive a known PSK car and compare. The difference should be obvious.

Default Ride height is lower on PSK (not sure of exact numbers though)

Congrats on the new toy.

One way to tell for sure about the suspension is to measure the rear anti-sway bar. My PSK has an 18mm bar and at least one non-PSK owner says theirs is 16mm. If you lay on the ground beside either rear tire you can reach behind it and measure the bar easily(if you have a vernier caliper or similar)

A cheapie way to tell is to park next to a known non-PSK car (possibly even a 2.8) and visually compare ride heights. There is a noticable difference.

Default Call Eddie @tirerack (see the wheel forum), and upgrade to 17"

It completely changes the feel of the car, and you can probably sell your old wheels to someone who want to do winter tires on thier 2.7t

OK, I got the car home and checked. The build date is 12/99 and the rear sway bar is 16mm, so it does not have the suspension (sigh!). What do I need to change to replicate the sport suspension or even improve upon it?

Upgrade to 17" wheels and tires, then Eibach springs, and you'll be pretty much there.
