Default Just performed rear brake job and now have a blinking dash `brake' light

Let me preface this by saying it's not a faulty ABS unit, as I can communicate just fine with it and I don't have an `ABS' light on in the dash. All I have is a blinking `brake' light and 3 beeps upon startup.

Any ideas as to what causes the `brake' light to flash? I can't seem to find any DTCs when I do an auto-scan. I did run the reservoir a little low during the brake bleed process, but it's fully topped up now. Brakes have been fully bled and pedal feel and performance is excellent (at least for an Audi). Could I have buggered up the reservoir sensor somehow? Is there a way to check this to see if it's reading low/high via VAG? I'm going to check the ABS sensors tonight with the VAG, but it would be helpful to know what triggers the flashing light in the first place before I send myself on a wild goose chase.

Default Could be a misaligned wheel speed sensor - that should show up in VAG. It only takes 0.5 mm or so

to cause an error reading - you could have bumped it doing the brake job. Low fluid will cause that warning as well but it seems you have taken care of that issue.

Default That's my hunch at the moment - any other possible causes?

I did notice the driver's rear wheel sensor was missing it's hex bolt. I also removed and cleaned all of the sensors due to metallic particle buildup. Haven't re-checked with VAG yet, but will tonight.

Is there a list or something that shows what makes just the 'brake' light flash on the dash? The Bentley is rather useless. Why that passes as a service manual is beyond me.

Default Did you check the fluid level?

One of the indications for the symptoms you describe are for low fluid level. However, it seems odd that changing the pads would cause brake fluid level to go down.

Default Fluid level is OK now, but did go low during bleeding process

Wife was helping me bleed the brakes and the reservoir did get low. Since then, brakes have been fully bled and fluid level is fully topped up.

Brake pedal feel is fine. Brake performance is fine. Just have this flashing 'brake' light on the dash and no DTCs to read.

Only causes I know of are low fluid level, misaligned sensor, and possible ABS controller issues.

try giving the fluid reservoir a few taps see if the level float is stuck.

Default Problem Solved - float level was stuck due to filtering screen

Apparently also related to my wife siphoning out the old fluid. It looks like screen can be pushed in/down and this prevents the float from going all the way up when the fluid is full; Just like the float in a carburetor. Kinda stupid that this can happen if you ask me.

After removing the filter screen and 'resetting' it back to it's normal position all is good with the world again.

Man I can't tell you how much of a relief this is. That stupid flashing 'brake' and chime are so annoying it isn't funny.

Thanks for all the help guys!
