I can't speak to the difference that a K&N filter would make on a 2.7T, as I have never tried it (new to Audi - just bought one). But I am a little curious. I installed one on my '94 Mustang (5.0L V8), and it did make a nice difference even though it is build stock as a very good performace engine (true headers - not manifolds, roller cam, etc). Of course the Ford is not a forced induction engine. So comparison is useless.

On the fouling MAF issue, it's not an issue. The problem people run into is when they use the recharge kit, the ALWAYS use far too much oil. In fact, people use the recharge kits far too early too. The K&N filter is a cotton/oil design, which actually filters better the dirtier it gets. So you shouldn't need to clean and recharge it for tens of thousands of miles (certainly not sooner than 30,000 miles).

But people get anxious because they are used to the replacement cycle with cheap paper filters. And they use far too much oil on them. They actually only need a drop or two of oil. Then for optimal results, they should sit for several days to let to oil spread through the filter. Instead, most folks just dump on the oil to get immediate coverage, then drop it right back in. And then they are surprised when the MAF gets fouled.

The best way to use a K&N filter would be to get on, use it for a normal cycle (50,000 miles), then simply replace it (only another $50).

But hey, that's just my humble opinion.
