Default Key stuck in ingition - how to take it out

98 Audi A6
Key got stuck in ignition.
Nothing special happened. Simply parked car, shut it off, left key in the lock. Came after 10 mins, and was not able to take key out.
Car can start, runs fine, and can be shut off, but key won't turn around back enough to be take out.

Tried playing with position of transmission handle (in P, in tiptronic mode, etc), but no luck.

Can bad/damaged ignition switch cause key to get stuck?(I am suspecting that my switch is going bad or already is because I had few occurences of loosing blinkers, headlights, AC, etc temorarily).

No matter what the cause is, what is the best, least damaging way to get the key out?

Thanks

Default Try to carefully and slowly run the gear selector from P to 2 and the tip slot....

probably it's not all the way in P.

Default Had this happen on the wifes A6 4.2. As I understand it, the shifter utilizes a magneticaly ...

actuated switch to allow the key to be rotated back far enough to allow extraction. "Our" problem only occurred when I drove the car and I almost always drive the car in TIP mode. The resolution for "us" was to cycle the shifter back and forth between TIP and non-TIP modes. Usually only took one or two tries to get the thing to work correctly.

Sure, anything is possible. but it's not the actual switch, it's the lock..
