Default Not fuzzy at all Shock resistance is a function of

1. motion
2. and speed ( velocity)

This, of course, is motion and velocity of the PISTON, not the car.. btu we do all realize that, right?

Unless I misunderstand your question....

And in real life they are NOT symmetrical on compression and rebound.

That's hwo the equations for a shock are written, in fact. What's your question?

A shock's resistance is NOT a f(x) of displacement. A shock can sit 2" off center and exert no pressure, unlike a spring which would exert 2" x its spring rate.
