Default Lincoln LS beats 540i in slalom, lane change, skid pad

Speed TV report was pretty amazing: The new LS reportedly has improved ride, handling, steering, acceleration, and interior. Not Audi-related but interesting, I thought, and a sign that perhaps US automakers finally are arriving at the sports sedan party. (Have you heard about Chevy's SS concept? 450 hp in a rakish design with Corvette elements, yet it's a full-sized sedan. Big question is whether they'll build it, although with Bob Lutz there's at least a chance. But even he has to get an OK from the GM bored, or rather board.)

Default Lincoln pays for that, The PT Cruiser in the same "test drive" show was the best thing next to a

viper or something. I'd take a 540i or A6 or E500 over it any day.

Default Your statement destroys the credibility of Speed TV, so I wonder...

...what's your source for the claim that Lincoln "pays for" comparison tests? Are you referring to their placing commercials on Speed TV, or something else? have you driven the NEW LS yourself -- and if not, how can know what's best? (I drove the old LS & agree it did not compare well to Bimmer or Benz, but this is not the old LS.) BTW Road & Track's editor participated in today's program and had high praise for the new LS. Also keep in mind reviews coming up at 5 eastern time today for the S4 and RS6. If those are praised too, will it be because Audi "paid for" it? Also, for the record, there was no PT Cruiser in the 30-minute program I saw today re the LS.

Default The PT wasn't today, its been on. Some how I doubt that they would for free do a 30 minutes info

show. They never said ONE NEGATIVE on the RS6,S4,PT, and only one on the LS. The LS is a good car but it has more than one minor negative.

Default You may be right about manufacturers paying for that time, but I still wonder...

...what's your source for that info? Or is it just a guess/assumption? BTW there was one negative comment re the RS6, right at the top of the show; the host said he wished it hadn't come along so late in the A6 model's production run. But other than that, it was all grins & praise, which does make me wonder who's paying. Could be that the mfrs. supply the cars and the location, but that's just a guess too. I may try to find out more later this week, but if you already know something, please let me know here or by email.

Default For the most part, lane change, slalom, skid pad and braking performance is all about the TIRES!

All they had to do was pick a better performing, grippier tire for the LS than the 540i and given that they are of the same basic size, weight and layout, and the LS should probably come out on top.

Default I would second this.

For any of these it does not metter what engine, suspension and brakes you have.
