Default Long-term experience with Alcantara?

I'm looking to make a big jump from a '98 2.8 A4 to an '02 S6. The S6 I'm looking at had bone-colored Alcantara seat inserts, of which the front passenger seat was balled-up/nappy. Is this just one of the downsides of life with Alcantara? I've got an 18-month old and another one on the way, so would likely cover the rear seats with a pet cover to avoid them. The car has only 22K (dealer's asking $37K), but the Alcantara issue has me considering a different S6 altogether with 38K (dealer's asking $38K) since it has the black nappa leather. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Default Some have had success shaving or using a sweater "pill" remover ...

on their alcantara. I do not know how that effects long term durability or if it comes back. However, I do think you would need to cover the rears if they are going to be used by children frequently.

Leather has proved durability over decades.
