Default Looking to join you guys, rather my wife at least... (Updated with more fault codes)

Found an '03 3.0L quattro auto, with 76k miles on it. Car is clean, DID works perfectly, radio is fully functional, couple blemishes in the paint.

I ran VAG-COM on the major computer and came up with a small list of issues:

Did some quick research on here and found the transmission code is most likely due to the engine codes being stored. No EPC or MIL lights however. I was told that an inner CV boot was replaced in the front when they got the car.

Dealer is asking $12k for it which is so-so IMO. The first jobs I would tackle are timing belt and all related parts, camshaft and crank seals, and resolving the issues above, plus new rotors and pads. So I figure around $2k in initial repairs or so.

I'm taking the car to my local indy shop tomorrow for a complete inspection of the vehicle. Hopefully they don't find anything else big wrong with the car.

Any of you guys have some quick pointer and good questions for me to ask?

Default 3.0 is a big skip.

Ask Carson.

Really... Man. I thought it was the new workhorse, akin to the 2.8.

Default Unfortunately, no.

Cam timing is adjusted by sprockets rotating on the cams driven by oil pressure. A few folks have had bank one cams seize. Most techs do not like this engine.

Great. Not what I wanted to hear. But, if oil pressure is never lost, would that be an issue?

Get a 2.7t S-Line without the issues and give your wife your car.

Default Skip this one...

...there are clean ones out there, don't fall in love. I've been shopping clean '04 S-lines with less than 50k miles and they are out there in the 15k price range.

Default The story that they got from Audi was that high crank case pressure prevented oil flow to that head.

A stretch, if you ask me.
