LOUD TICKING NOISE 99 A6
MY 99 A6 DEVELOPS A LOUD TICKING NOISE AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP. WITH THE NOISE I NOTICE A FLUCTUATION ON THE RPMS. THE TICKING IS LOUD ENOUGH TO BE HEARD INSIDE THE CAR. ANY IDEAS?

Re: Where is it coming from? could also be the water pump..
the noise appears to be coming from the right side by the air flow sensor. when i open the hood it sounds more like an electric spark than a valve.
i recently had the water pump changed. noise was there before i replaced the water pump.

Re: that could be normal.. The EVAP purge solenoid is in that area...
i am a little concerned. i have noticed recently my volts drop to 12 volts even if i do not have my accesories on. when i do put my accessories on sometimes my gauge does not return to the 14 volts even if i am highway driving. could it be a bad alternator (causing this annoying clicking noise, i have to put the radio on to drown it out) or regulator. i recently had my ignition switch fried.
