A nice cold snap has hit NW PA with temps in the upper teens. Lots of snow. Water, freeze/thaw cycle has gotten into the door latch/striker. On a few times, when opening the door, the latch/striker (for lack of better word) would not properly return.
When closing the door, it would just bounce off the U bracket on the door jamb. To reset, you just have to move the latch/striker to an open position.
I sprayed the striker (on the doors) with Mobil 1 Silicone Spray to lube/displace any moisture. No problems since.

don't know if I will have any problems in a few moments. It was funny at 8am today, it was snowing just around the car wash- from the spray.

treat the rubber seals with 303 or Gummipflege to help shed water to keep from freezing too.

As we both have about the same climate I will try the Mobil 1 spray for this season. I had been using tri-flow but it really had not solved the problem, I would just need to spray it each time to free it up.

It's waterproof and works really well. You can get it at good bike shops.
The moisture thing is from warm car/cold outside, and since the sedan gets parked outside, it freezes up.
The dealer sprays the latches during the service intervals, but I'm not sure what they use. It is thicker than silicone or T9, and it seems to attract moisture.
Hey, maybe it'll get cold enough to freeze over the lake to shut off the snow--until then, we're in for it on this end!
Enjoy! 8 ^ )
