MAF and temporary disconnecting...

I'm at my wits end w/ the way my car has been running the past month... my question is if I disconnect the MAF sensor to see if it is attributing to my poor acceleration then reconnect it, I should only have to endure the MIL light 'til I can reschedule a dealer appointment, right?
STFA and it seems that there should be no ill effects, however one member couldn't get their vehicle started... I don't want to gamble on this as I'm over an hour from my dealer.
Any other possible repercussions?
TIA - Kevin

for attempting to guestimate airflow until the MAF re-appears. That's one way of diagnosing a faulty MAF sensor.
