Not sure when timing belt was replaced, or when/ if turbos serviced. Also why would this car have turbo lag? New bigger turbos? What should I do?

Currently have a pelican blue 98 A4 Avant 2.8 Tip.

without service records it better be real cheap! with those miles, it is do for T-belt, and possibly a clutch, and possibly turbo's, so figure you may be putting as little as $1500 or up to a easy 5k in the car in the next year or 2. thats a big range!

Sorry to start 2 threads. I am the same guy asking questions under "Selling A4 to get A6".

I have a 2001 A6 biturbo 6 speed. Plan on doing lots of expensive maintenance and very labor intensive but still a wonderful all around car. Read the S4 form
for typical engine problems.

yes, bigger turbos will give you more lag.

Exactly. You need to know the status of thsoe 3 items. They can last well beyond 185, but many are dead before 185.

T-belt complete - $1000-1500, do every 75k
Turbos - $5k no service possible
clutch - guess - $2000 you need to feel it and think abotu who you are buying it from

Thanks for all the help. I decided to pass on the car. No records because the car was on it's fourth owner and the last 3 had owned the car for a year or less. I am just going to stick with my A4 for now.
