... sensor problem?
I have an 01 A6 2.8. The problem started a week ago and continues to occur
about once a day, especially when I start my car in the morning (or after the car has been just sitting for very long time ~6hrs).
As I start the ignition, it misfires and
sounds as if the car has not ben started for a month.
When I rev up the the engine and finally get the it running, I notice
that the coolant temperature gauge is at the left most side at C (cold).
After driving for awhile, the needle comes to a middle between C and H.
Is there a way to check myself whether this is an ECT sensor problem? Are there any other problems related to these symptoms of my car?
thanks

come to think of it, every car I've owned, the temp starts at the bottom.
anyway, I'd VAG it to see which cylinders are misfiring, then I'd check the wires for any cracks from heat, melting, or arc indication (sometimes shows up as a grey/white smudge, usually near a crack, and the rubber insulation on the wire will be hard. plug wires should be flexible all the way through the legnth of the wire. I haven't touched a 2.8, does it use coilpacks? if not, def check the wires. I'd also check the plugs and make sure they're clean and show no signs of other problems.
also, if you have to change one wire, you're probably better off changing them all while you're at it, and do the plugs too, it'll save time and heartache in the future when another old wire gives you problems. this way, it'll keep all the cylinders at the same level of maintenance. (and you don't have to track what wire has been replaced, etc)
