If you think it needs a tranny service, then......

....it probably needs a new tranny.

Figure dropping $15-20k on repairs if a new tranny is needed.

Worst case, you need engine work, so figure that into your calcs -

at 5-7K to buy you could be doing well.

More likely engine needs a thorough service and there's a coolant leak somewhere (water pump, radiator, expansion bottle, ???)
