Picture kinda looks like the offspring of the new A8 and a Passat.

Default Teutonic twosome? Ironic teutonic twosome sounds more appropriate. Build it and they shall buy.

Since we Americans often get into this self loathing thing when it comes to euro cars, euro driving, and euro highways I'll state (to keep "real" enthusiasts happy):

"what would we Americans know anyway, were too dumb to appreciate a $70K Volkswagen." Hell if GM motorized a radio flyer we'd buy it cuz we are incapable of understanding automotive excellence. Since we like to jump ponds with abandon, where is Sir Ripley when you need him? Oh sorry, I have insulted the Brit's by assigning a title only bestowed by royalty. Excccuuuussse me.

Not for the comment but the gas, er indigestion from swallowing the sticker on a $70K Volkswagen. An overpriced beetle was my max tolerance for this strategy. Oh my, we Americans are so gauche.

Damn, I think someone pissed in my wheaties!

All talk so far... I don't see any VW's beyond the $30k range yet... W8 is coming (Europe), though.

Default 70 k for a W 12 ?? Hmm, is that such a bad deal ??

If its going to go up against the E Merc. it will start at or maybe below its price point with the W8.I am waiting to drive one before I decide on a new car next year.

Default Actually, this is more of a threat to the A8

The new and improved Passat is moving up dangerously close to the 2.8, IMHO. There are a lot of them driving around LA now and damned if it doesn't take me a second to register VDub and not A6. But the goofy taillights are a giveaway.

I'm telling ya, they are going to start overlapping models and diluting both brands. And let's not even talk about the other brands they own over in Europa and how they fit into the puzzle (e.g., GTI 4Motion vs. A3 quattro)!

Default Agree. All blather on short on substance......

What a waste of money here in NA to sell VW's vs Audi, BMW and MB. Segements here are very well defined by brand and price, imho. Seems like we get the fewest engine options of any market for a reason.

Anyhow, for my family it's a no brainer: VW Passat 4Motion wagon over A6 2.8 Avant every time. Same for the sedans. To me, this example shows Audi's focus should be on allroads. So when the W8's and 12's roll out Audi gets bumped up the food chain to what? Focus on $60k S6's, $80k S8's and $90k A8 6.0's? I just don't see it. What happens to the 2.7T, 4.2, A4 3.0, and A8 4.2 in NA?

The LeMans sponsorship shows, Audi should be around for awhile in all classes of the performance segment in its various garb. However, it's the mass market A4, 3 series and C Class that get the buyers that might stay with you a lifetime.
