Like I said, I've never heard of this problem in Audis, but Toyota Supras (my previous ride) had a problem with blown head gaskets ("BHG" in Supra owner lingo -- that' how common it was on 150k+ Supras). Do a web search (see a link below) on BHG and Supra and you can learn a little bit about it to see if that's really what is going on and how to diagnose it. The symptom with Supras is coolant overflow from the reservoir and hard gurgling (becasue the exhaust leak would pressurize the cooling system) after stopping...

http://www.supras.org.nz/techinfo/bhg.htm</a

Did it have white areas along the seams? If so,its most likely because of a sticking thermostat. Dont be fooled by the temp guage that reads near normal. If the thermostat is not opening all the way then the flow is being restricted. When this happens, some of the cooling system will stay normal or cooler than normal, like the bottom of the radiator where the coolant temp sensor is. Thats why the guage looks normal. On the flip side, other parts of the system get way too hot, and the expansion tank is one of them. Easy way to tell without a temp probe is to bring the engine up to operating temp. Feel the top radiator hose on the drivers side. Now feel the bottom passenger side of the radiator. If the top hose is much hotter than the bottom passenger than you have a thermostat problem.

Tell the dealer they will put in some more coolant., its also likely that it will settle down by itself after a day or two.

In the meantime, the internal components may be subjected to air induced cavitation, which could slowly create pits and wear away at the internal metal components of your cooling system.
