Is My Car Possessed? (Long)

I think my car was possessed this morning. I was driving to the Park N Ride by my home in NJ. I was driving on Rt.1 North and and my car was automatically accelerating without me pushing the pedal. I was hitting the brake but the car was still accelarating. I moved the gear into tiptronic and as I moved it into lower gear, the car's RPM was hitting 7000. Immediately I moved it back into normal mode, which reduced the RPM's but not the speed. I was freaked and as I braked harder I got the car down on the shoulder to 15 mph. Here, I just shut the car off. I started the car again instantly and the RPM was back at 7000. So, I shut the car down again. I waited close to about a minute, and started the car again. Now it was back to normal. I started driving and everything was fine. The only thing I smelled was the burning rubber smell when you brake real hard when I parked my car. Should I be freaking out? Has this ever happened to anyone? For a split second I thought I had the cruise control on, but I have never even used it.
Please advise a already paranoid A6 owner.
Info: 99 A6 2.8 w/ 47K. I have not driven the car for more than 2 miles a day in the past week until today.

Didn't this person have a similar problem:

I hope this isn't a trend.

NJ Turnpike north of Newark airport, car wigged and I lost power. Attributed to radio interference with the car's computer. Who knows -- never happened before and hasn't happened since.

You're not alone. I know of 3 on this forumn. A8 board also reported similar problems.
My dealer told me I'm the fifth one complaining about this the day it happened. Their explanation was throtle plate icing. There's suppose to be a heating element to keep it free of ice but on very cold days it may not be good enough. Just sit for a couple of minutes, it'll return to normal. I am sketical but it has not reoccur.

My wife had the EXACT same issue. Dealer replaced something with the throttle. Not sure exactly what it was, but I can dig up the receipt. Let's just say we are not very happy with this car right now, although it does seem to be back to normal now.
Take it to the dealer and have them take a look at it. I only hope for you that they can see what the problem is so they can 'fix' whatever the issue is. Email me if I can help at all.

From the paperwork I got:
Remove and Install Throttle Valve Housing
Not sure what this is and if it was a big deal or not. Luckily it has not happened again, but we drive the car with a bit more caution...
